Aug 18 2009- I was out wakeboarding at Mccormicks Cable Park. First Let me say that my riding felt off, I should have just taken it easy, anyway I go for a backmobe, I make the rotation but stretch out my legs for the landing.  My legs were locked when I landed and my front knee snapped backwards followed by a loud POP and intense pain. My homies drag me out of the water, the pain is real bad but subsides after about 30min. Lesson number 1. If I feel off trust my instincts and take it easy!.

Aug 19 2009- I still can't walk with out the aid of crutches. Primary doctor thinks I tore ACL and has scheduled an MRI.

Aug 24 2009- I met with a sports medicine surgeon  today Doctor Phuc Vo (pronounce Foo). The MRI Revealed A Torn ACL a partially torn MCL and a tear in my lateral miniscus.Because of the location and severity of the tears he is unable to use tissue from my own leg, and i elect to use Tisssue from a tissue bank in stead of my patella. Surgery is scheduled for Sept 2. Untill then I am able to walk using an over the counter brace.

Aug 29 2009
- I get a call from the physical therapist today, they would like to schedule my first session on the 4th... 2 days after my surgery!

Sept 2 2009-Today I go in for surgery, Havn't eaten since midnight and I am not scheduled to go under untill 3:30. I have specific instructions to mark the leg to be operated on in permanent marker

I have no pain now but still have instability with out the brace. The procedure is scheduled to last 1hr 45min
but ends up taking 2 1/2 hrs, upon inspection of the knee i had torn completely through my miniscus, as a result the torn piece is removed and not repaired.
Upon awakening from surgery I feel great pain in my leg. The nurse gives me 10mg percocet and I am discharged quickly.

Sept 3 2009
- I didn't get much sleep last night.. maybe two hours 15mg percocet every 3hrs and the pain was still almost too much at times. Pain is alot all day i keep it elevated keep it iced. Yes, I said every 3 hrs, Lesson number 2 Don't let the medicine wear off before my next dose has a chance to work.

Sept 4 2009- I woke up at 4am and my pain level felt like it had been cut in half. I think the worst part is over. Physical therapy, was basic Got some measurements Circumference is 21/2 inces bigger in my left knee. took home some simple excercises to do 5 times a day, to help stretch the tendons and keep them from getting tight as well as strengthen my quads.

Sept 5 2009- Thought I would try to get out of the house today, actually drove a bit, I get around ok on the crutches but I may have overdid it a bit today. Time for lots of ICE!

Sept 8 2009- Second time to physical therapy, Did a few more exercises mostly leg lifts, to strengthen my quads
still doing them 3 times a day. The amount of flex in your knee is imoportant and is measured by degrees, in one week mine went from 45 degrees to 80 degrees, A significant improvement.

Sept 11 2009- I got rid of my crutches today, as well as the stabilizer that was used to keep my leg straight. I now only where an over the counter ACL Brace, and am able to walk alone. Physical therapy came with a more rigorous work out involving weights and a total body machine. Flex increased from 80 to 90 degrees. At the end of the day my leg is tired but pain is minimal.

Sept 22 2009- I'm now at 120 degrees flex, and therapist has cut me down to once a week to get new exercises from her and the rest is on me to do them.

November 12 2009 -I have been in the gym 3-4 days a week doing squats and other leg excercises. I Got a Custom CTI Knee brace which is specificly designed for wakeboarders and extreme sports athletes. It's a pricey piece of equipment but insurance covered most of the bill.
I went thru www.Kangamarketing.com (knee brace link at bottom right corner.) Chase Sellmeyer was the tech that took my custom measurements and got me set up with the brace, He made everything run smoothly, from getting the brace covered by my insurance to making sure it fit properly. I highly recomend Getting a CTI Brace from these guys if you are considering. I might have even takin a few laps on the wakeskate at the cable ;) everything is good, Should be officially cleared Jan 26th.
Getting an ACL knee injury while wakeboarding can take you out for a while, But letting it heal properly is critical to achieving the same level of performance prior to your injury.. This is my personal expierience, everyones will be different. this will give you some idea of what to expect if you incure a similar injury. Thanks to Dr. Phuc Vo And his staff at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Feb 15 2009- As you can see from the video above I am starting to train again. Still only doing basic things to gain stability strength back in my leg. I started Feb 1, Just hitting the rails, then i move to some small jumps, and finally some basic air trick, However i have stayed away from landing switch, which puts a lot of strain on my week leg. it should also be noted that the swelling at the end of a long day is now minimal, even if i ride hard. I could tell a huge difference when i started doing open chain exercises in the gym, at the end of January., I have been Cleared by the doctor to start to work back into things. I still feel like there is somewhat of a road to recover left, but I'm stoked to be on the comeback

April 9 2009- I am Back to about 80% with my brace. Landing tricks i have never landed before.  This thread is official Closed.
